Triggers
By: Erin
It seems triggers lurk in the shadows
Behind every corner
Ready to jump out and yell…
“Surprise!”
I get so tired of these awful dark things
Because triggers run to your side hang on and cling
Sometimes just for a moment fleeting by
Other times for much longer and we don’t know why
They change shape, color and form as we ourselves grow
And they always try to take your life and steal the show
That is why we must be bold
That is why we must stand our ground and refuse to be
controlled
Triggers are a tool of darkness to pull us down
The ultimate goal of dark is to get us to drown
So this is what we do
I’m going to tell me, and I’m going to tell you
For right now I’m triggered beyond belief
But I will not let the darkness steal my night like a thief
When triggers jump out
We can one: shout shout shout
Exposure makes them run away fast
And then we feel much less harassed
We can two: fight with light
By calling on Jesus with all of our might
For he has faced temptation just like we have today
So let us talk to Him… pray pray pray
We can three: distract our minds with something good
Maybe a conversation with a friend that makes us feel
understood
Loving, listening, laughing, and talking
Will send triggers running…. Or at least walking
